We are getting closer and closer to living on the road. We have bought the truck +Ford F450 dually, and the 5th wheel. The truck, I have been informed, is one of the biggest you can buy, sitting at 22 ft long. We decided to go with a Keystone Raptor Velocity 395LEV. What that means to me is BIG. It's 43 ft long, with 3 slide outs and all the bells and whistles it seems. It is just enormous. I keep wondering how we are going to keep it within the lanes on the highway. The "we" part is kind of a joke because I'll probably yelling, screaming, cringing, or closing my eyes while Jason is driving!
There is a lot more planning than just buying the right vehicles, but we are still waiting to make any other decisions at this time. We do have a RV site for the month of May until the middle of June when the boys school gets out. This will be our trial and error time, but close enough to our normal life that adjustments can be made.
I have applied to several travel nursing companies, but can't begin to think of where we might go on our first adventure until it gets closer to "go time". By mid-May we should have a destination in mind.
We have done research on several home school programs and have one in mind, but will not be starting the boys homeschooling until August at the earliest. We are planning to get our life in order on the road first and learn about all of our personal space issues before we throw in another obstacle.
Some of our home furnishings are getting put in storage, some we are selling and very little of it is actually going in the 5er (5th wheel trailer). Space bags will be our friends!
We are kind of in limbo, wanting to get on the road, but needing to tie up life as it is.
This is our first blog! Hoping to keep everyone connected on our adventures!
ReplyDeleteGod love you, Jason, Renee, and kids! First I hear of this... and I'm sure you'll have many amazing, once-in-a-lifetime adventures along the way that will add greatly to your family's store of memories.
DeleteLet us know if this wing of the family -- including Pete and Christina, Jonathan and Shannon, or Janet and I -- can provide help or suggestions with our respective areas of the country, including New England, Mid-Atlantic, Florida Keys, Rocky Mountains, Texas, and of course, Pacific Northwest.
As you probably know, the best things in these and other areas are free -- if you know where to find them and how to make your own adventures happen. (I suspect you are, or will be, REAL good at that.) Feeble suggestion: get a copy of Frommers Guide for any given area you're likely to be traveling through or staying at. Worth every nickel, for openers.
Oddly enough, the Sunset Magazine website puts out a steady stream of very cool, lesser-know adventures for most Western regions. You can find them by trolling through the search feature.
Best wishes... we'll be following your blog... my contact info is danwojcikdcw@gmail.com and 503-459-2724

ReplyDeleteWe wish you the best....we've had our motorhome for almost 3 years now and have lived in for just about half of that time, and we're still in the trial and error period....I don't think it will ever end. We'll be thinking of you and if you have any rv questions give us a call....not that we'll know the answer but you'll at least have a sympathetic ear. Keep us posted. Love, Joel, Janice and Jack
ReplyDeleteEd and I are so excited for you and the kids. What an adventure!! We're are really hoping that your travels will bring you to Michigan so that we can take you out on the boat and do the other things we talked about in Denver. However, do it soon because we're thinking of putting the boat up for sale and joining the motor home brigade too. So we'll be eagerly following your adventure and perhaps seeking your advice at a later date. Love and hugs, Sally and Ed
ReplyDeleteI want to follow along too! This is Cousin Amy :)

Once you have your normal traveling load I highly recommend a trip to the scales to see what it all weighs and how balanced the load is. We also went full-timing - from scratch - in a 38 footer and were shocked at how much overweight our rig was on its first trip to the scales.
